The absolute, coolest, freaken awesome thing ever built in 1890

Posted on 10:45 by Unknown
What's the coolest thing someone did in 1890? It wasn't creating the car, making a camera without powdered explosion flash either. So what was it?

Witley Park.
Oh, wow, that sound's like fun....?

Take a look at some of these pictures:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cybergibbons/sets/72057594107271287/

Basically, it's a giant underwater dome-ballroom. UNDERWATER! Why don't we have more of these things! Natural light, a nice green tint from the alge, what could go wrong! I mean, this one lasted for over a century, right! It's not like the glass panels are extremely thin and could still break at any moment, or anything...

That statue is on top of the underwater dome. To get that angelic look, people put bright lights in the dome at night, creating this awesome final photo.

MSG Varsity Doesn't Care About Robotics: A Rant

Posted on 17:05 by Unknown
I was thrilled to see MSG Varsity taking videos and pictures at the Long Island FIRST Robotics Regional at Hofstra this past Friday and Saturday.

Unfortunately, they seemed to not care about posting the pictures. Once they posted the single album from Saturday, I was greeted with a heartwarming:

Even worse, their highlight video was ridiculous, cutting off every interview, even replaying one interview.

To see it for yourself, visit: http://www.msgvarsity.com/2011-sbpli-robotics-competition-highlights-1.427837?p=&qr=1

My message to MSG: Thanks for your interest, but get your act together, because robonerds are the future of America, not some high school LAX star.

Thoughts on Facebook's New Question Service

I love it! With one exception. This will not replace Yahoo Answers, ChaCha, etc for one reason: Odds are, 95% of your facebook friends aren't going to sit there for 3 hours going through all your life questions. On top of that, 95% of your facebook friends probably don't care about you.

Some people REALLY don't get it.

Posted on 19:08 by Unknown
For the last time:
YOU ARE NOT GETTING A CR48 IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE ONE! GOOGLE HASN'T SENT OUT A CR48 IN OVER A MONTH AND THEY CONFIRMED THEY SHIPPED THEM ALL OUT!!

I'm not even kidding, I'm still getting emails from people asking for tracking info that I don't have!
I even took the time to write a long paragraph on why I am not a tracker and the data I had expired over 2 months ago. I don't know what to do anymore!

FrankenStories, my new project

The goal of this project is to have a daily blog post including a single sentence story. This sentence is then continued in the comments page to form a complete story.

Remember, this is a test before bringing the site to an actual time slotted website where each writer has a limited time to write their addition to the story.

Hands down, the coolest hack for Chrome

Just paste this into your URL bar and click enter. I've been playing with this hack for a good 20 minutes!

javascript:var i,s,ss=['http://kathack.com/js/kh.js','http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.5.1/jquery.min.js'];for(i=0;i!=ss.length;i++){s=document.createElement('script');s.src=ss[i];document.body.appendChild(s);}void(0);

Yeah, no need to tell you to not enter it with quotes, because I didn't give you any.
Enjoy!

It doesn't get worse than this. The Story of my iPhone

Posted on 09:00 by Unknown
It all began one morning at a gas station. I watched as someone accidentally ran over someone's phone, sped off, and left one angry girl. She picked up the broken up iPhone and threw it in the garbage. Luciky, I have an appreciation for technology, so, I picked it up and brought it home. It seemed to only need a digitizer(touch screen) so I fired up amazon and ordered one for a whopping: 15 dollars. I coated it in saran wrap to prevent me from scratching myself while I waited for the screen, and installed my Apps and Music.

When It arrived, I followed the poorly written, broken English, instruction sheet and opened the Youtube video they provided, since it was my first time attempting to fix an iPhone's screen. It went well, with the exception of a small dot on the top of the LCD known as "bleeding", which I ignored.

After a few months, I broke the LCD while listening to my genius plan to squish the black liquid back into the edge of the screen. Back to Amazon I went, only this time for an LCD. Upon installing, I cracked the digitizer in the process, again. So, the Noob I am, kept the cycle going and ordered another one and installed it, this time perfectly. I put a screen protector on as well as a nice case to prevent any further mistakes.

But, my luck, the LCD I was sent crapped out on me while riding home on the train. I contacted the seller and he gave me another one, but only after I reported him to Amazon because he ignored my claim for a good 2 weeks. Now that I was a pro, I didn't crack the screen or touch screen while I installed it.

Recently, I was showing someone a picture and it slipped out of my hand, slowly falling to the ground. Unlike ALL the other times i've dropped it, it cracked right on top, but luckily not over the screen. Unfortunately, the screen stopped working after a few days and I have ordered the pricey 7 dollar screen once again.

All in all, It would have been MUCH cheaper to buy an iPhone 3G online someplace than to keep buying these touch screens. As for now, here are some pictures to demonstrate my destruction.

Yeah......I don't have the best luck with this device.

Rant: What FIRST Robotics Should Be, And What It's Not

Posted on 21:42 by Unknown
In Robotics, there are a few factors that give some teams a better advantage:

1. Lots of dough
2. Lots of teachers
3. Lots of Kids

Two of these factors are not appreciated when excess amounts of it appear.

Perfect example of how a FIRST Team should run: Gear Ratios
Student: Gear 1
Teacher: Gear 2

Direct drive= terrible, but i've seen it happen
1:2= ridiculous
2:1= better
4:1= closer
8:1= Student run team, this team learns how to do something useful for their future

I've seen teams from bad neighborhoods, missing functionality on their robot, with kids trying to compete with students with around 1 million dollars in spending money. These kids may be in the same competition, but they are far from similar. The kids without the money are trying to build something together, getting other team's help, and getting the most from their experience. These are the idealist teams, the ones who should be winning the prizes, because these people are motivated to do their best.

There's my rant. I hope this is heard by the people of FIRST

*I am not aiming this at certain teams, it is just a trend I am noticing*

Recap of the Week's Most Ridiculous Crap: AKA- ROTWMRC!

Posted on 19:35 by Unknown
Yes, that name is great, I'm keeping that obnoxious Acronym.
Anyway:

1. A baby was put in overhead storage for a whole 10 seconds. OHmygod. Get over it.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/overheard-locker-tot-outrage/story-e6frf7kx-1226016403074

2. Gizmodo didn't double check their blog post before posting it to their thousands of readers. Look here:

(This image is a double whammy: It shows the ridiculous formatting AND the next ridiculous story)

3. Not only did these robbers successfully steal a TV, they stole it from a prison. I am so glad I don't live in New Zealand right now. I'd be pissed! Their prisons have nicer TVs in their cells than I have in my house! That's be a nice "CBS New Zealand follows the money" story.

Expect more of these.

Rant: The iPad 2 and anything else not significant in the tech world

Posted on 15:05 by Unknown

iPad 2Person 1: "OMFG! The iPad 2 is 33% thinner! I have to go waste another $500 on one RIGHT now!"
-No. No one cares.

Person 2: "OMFG! The iPad 2 has TWO cameras!"
-The front one, great idea Apple. The second one.... Who the hell is going to hold up a freaken iPad to take a picture!

Person 3: "The CR48 sucks. The trackpad sucks. The offline mode sucks. The file browser sucks."
-Sure some things need to be worked out, but isn't that why it's called BETA. Dual boot Ubuntu while they finish their OS or give it to one of the thousands of people who didn't get one.

Person 4: "OMFG! Did you see Charlie Sheen on the news yesterday?! He was caught walking with a new dog! I bet his old dog is PISSED!"
-Just another stupid thing that only lone, bored people use to make them feel better about themselves

So yeah. That's what's going on in the tech world. Nothing to see. Nothing cool.

CNN Doesn't Like The CR48, Huh. Let's Break him to the ground, right here.

Posted on 18:05 by Unknown
So Mr. Mangalindan, I loved your new post on CNN, NOT.

Quote #1:
"it totes a single-core Atom processor and 2 GB of RAM, typical parts for netbooks that sold two or three years ago. (Now, if you pick up a netbook at all, it probably has a more capable, dual-core Atom.)"
-I'll have you know, my Dell Mini 10V, and MSI Wind, from the same time period as what you are describing, both had a single core Atom processor, and 1 GB of RAM, unlike the newer, HD Video capable, Pine Trail in the CR48's with included double RAM.

Quote #2:
"The cursor jumps around, pages sometimes load slowly"
-That's because you're to retarded to realize Google is trying to get rid of the click, by using two finger tap, scroll and single click tap.

Quote #3:
"more than two or three open tabs can slow work to a crawl."
-Sorry, the CR48 doesn't support the browsing of more then one porn site.

Quote #4:
"As for video playback? Hit or (mostly) miss. Netflix isn't supported yet, while YouTube and Hulu are only watchable at their lowest settings, though even then, they'll occasionally stutter. "
-Seriously? Netflix? It's a PILOT program, what the hell did you expect. As for youtube and Hulu, I think the 30,000 some odd CR48 users disagree.

Well, at least he likes the stickers. How unappreciative....
