It all makes sense now!

I figured out why Italians make so many gestures!

Back before the unification of Italy, 150 years ago, Italians could barely go from city to city without having problems talking to one another since there was no single Italian language - it was split by hundreds of dialects.

So, as smart as they were, they used hand gestures so that if the person didnt understand what they were saying, they could figure it out based on hand movements.

Music.

In going to different countries, I've noticed something about people's enjoyment and feel for music. At times, unlike many Americans would agree, many Europeans don't listen to the words (often because they aren't in their native language) and yet, they still enjoy it.

Take Alors On Danse.
This song became a popular club and party song even in the US. Did the kids who took French understand it? I'd guess no for most parts. This also exists with other songs such as Danza Kuduro and We No Speak Americano in America.

In Europe, American music is played on radio most often more than European.
Here's one of my personal favorites: Radio Subasio

But why are these songs still good enough for say, an Italian to download them on their iPod? Because we, as complex beings, can not only comprehend the words to the song, but take sound waves and turn them into something our minds can also comprehend: music.

I'm not back talking lyrics, for language is one of the beauties of song. Take the lyrics of "Stereo Hearts"

These lines are genius. The rhetoric is key. The meaning is beautiful. 

And yet, the language of the song is the most beautiful part.

GPS on the Epic 4G: Nice, but becomes the cookie monster (battery life to cookies)

My battery steadily and quickly dies, but I left the GPS on for a matter of minutes........ bad idea. The phone was dead.

Is Spongebob bad for kids? WTF??? NO!

Today, I watched m AP Psychology teacher go absolutely berserk over the fact that this new study that's all over the news is COMPLETELY WRONG!

This study tested 60 kids (already a small number of test subjects) and broke them into THREE groups. I may not be a genius, but that's TWENTY kids per group.

That's not nearly enough to generalize a nation of 4 year olds (which did I mention that the show is not meant for under 7 year olds ANYWAY!)

All this study is going to do is (and I say this on September 15th, 2011) use this as a reason to for parents to whine and complain to pull one of the most loved cartoons in history, after Looney Toons, from the air!
